IS THIS REAL INDEPENDENCE?

I recently read one article that school children are smoking. I was shocked and visited that side and found.  The results were shocking. Yes it is true.

A group of higher secondary school children all in uniform, their bags on their backs were happily puffing. and they are not at all worry about this.  They were enjoyed in their conversation.

The shopkeeper said "it is quite common. They are asking cigarettes, we are selling,  If we stop they will go somewhere, why should I loose my business.  If I ask them why you are doing like that there answer is "it is none of your business".  THE SHOPKEEPER TOO SMOKING.

PSYCHIATRISTS POINT OF VIEW :-

  • THERE ARE A NUMBER OF REASON WHY CHILDREN MAY SMOKE; IT IS BETTER TO TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHY
  • ALL TEENAGERS EXPERIMENT THEY THINK IT MAKES THEM APPEAR 'GROWN UP' TRYING NEW THINGS AND MAKING MISTAKES IS PART F THE NORMAL LEARNING PROCESS
  • PLEASE CHECK THEIR FRIENDSHIP.  THEY MAY SMOKE BECAUSE THEIR FRIENDS DO TO FOLLOW CROWD TO BE ONE OF THE GANG
  • CHILDREN WHO SMOKE OFTEN BECOME HABITUAL SMOKERS.  THEY HAVE TO BE TLD THAT IT DOES AFFECT THEIR HEALTH. THEY WILL NOT HAVE MUCH STAMINA, SOME MAY DEVELOP BOUTS OF COUGHING.  IF THEY ARE WEAK THINGS CAN BECOME BAD.
  • A SIBLING OR A PARENT WHO SMOKES WILL PROVE TO BE A ROLE MODEL.  IF A CHILD'S FATHER SMOKES THE BOYS ARE THREE TIMES MORE LIKELY TO SMOKE
  • ASK A LOT OF OPEN QUESTIONS TO FIND OUT HOW THEY STARTED SMOKING, HOW OFTER THEY SMOKE WHO THEY SMOKE WITH ETC. BE AWARE THAT STARTING CONVERSATIONS WITH 'WHY' CAN SOUND AGGRESSIVE
  • MAKE SURE YOU REALLY LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR CHILD IS SAYING. LOVE AND SUPPORT FROM SCHOOL AND HOME ARE NEEDED. FOCUS ON THE POSITIVES AND TRY TO BUILD THE CHILD'S SELF-ESTEEM .
